Table of Contents The pthread_mutex_destroy function is used to destroy the mutex object referred to by mutex. The Windows equivalent function, CloseHandle, will close the current handle to the mutex. Since it is possible that a given Windows mutex has more than one handle, this function will decrement the handle count by one. If the count reaches zero, the mutex object will be removed from the system.
