PDOMAIN(1) System General Commands Manual PDOMAIN(1)

NAME
pdomain - display the name of the current Interix principal domain

SYNOPSIS
     pdomain

DESCRIPTION
The pdomain utility displays the current Interix principal domain. The
principal domain is an Interix specific notion to allow for users, pro-
grams and scripts to function more easily between different systems.

The pdomain utility shall exit with one of the following values: 0 for
normal behavior, 1 for incorrect options, and 2 when an error occurred.

ENVIRONMENT
No environment variables are used. The current value of the principal
domain to obtained by calling getpdomain.

Windows systems belong to one or more domains where users and groups each
have a unique identity across all systems; not just the domain they have
membership. To correctly and unique identify a user or group the Fully
Qualified Username (FQUN) needs to be specified. For example, the user
'john' in the principal domain 'KW' is identified as 'KW+john'. By
default when a username is not a FQUN the default principal domain is
prepended to the username. So, 'mark' is treated as 'KW+mark'. To specify
a user in a domain different than the principal domain the FQUN must be
given. For example, 'NY+jazz' for the domain 'NY' with the user 'jazz'.

The principal domain notion allows for user actions, programs and scripts
to be more portable (not needing to change) with other Unix systems.

FILES
     No files are used.

SEE ALSO
     getpdomain(2), stripdomainprefix(3)

HISTORY
A pdomain command appeared in Interix 3.0 (derived from Firebrand).

NOTES
This version of pdomain is a replacement to correct a exit status bug
     with the original.
