Tool Warehouse

The Tool Warehouse is a repository of contributed software from Interop Systems, Microsoft and SFU/SUA users. Your SUA Community login provides access to this page, as well as the SUA Community Forum.

The download links (below) are to directories on the Interop Systems FTP site: "src" links to source code, license, and Readme files; "binary" links to the binaries within the pkgs directory for 3.5.

We are continuing to add to the Tool Warehouse on a regular basis. If you have a specific request or would like to contribute to the repository, you can contact us at tools@interopsystems.com. If you would like to be notified about new additions, please subscribe to the Tool Warehouse Updates in the SUA Community Forum for automatic email notifications.

All SFU/Interix/SUA applications are now being packaged. A package is used by the installer to correctly place all the binary and data files. It also records version numbers, file locations and check sums for verification, uninstalls and does version updates. By using the installer, all the other packages that a particular application depends on will be installed at the same time. Using the Tools installer for software packages is easy and quick. All packages are binary releases. This means installations are quick and pre-tested to work. You do not need to do any source build option fiddling! Just install and use immediately. Less pain, more gain!
- The installer will cleanly install, update or remove a package.
- Inter-package dependencies are tracked and updated automatically.
- Package updates can be automatically retrieved, and checking for new packages can be done easily.
- Support is available for all packages through the /Tools Forum and through e-mail.
- Package versions are updated at regular intervals so the software is current for new features, bug-fixes and security fixes. Packages include updates and extensions to SFU/Interix shipped software.
- Package installations can be controlled by command line and/or GUI and/or any personal administrative scripts you have.
- The installer can be configured in large administrative settings by the administrator for selective package installations.

All tools, utilities and libraries listed work with both SFU 3.5 and the Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA), unless otherwise noted.

bind Version 9.3.2.8 binary: /pkgs/3.5/bind-current-bin.tgz src: /src/bind Updated: 2007-09-28	This replaces the version of bind that ships with SFU 3.5. BIND-9 comes with named (the DNS server daemon), libbind, the lwres library (light weight resolver) and DNS API's for p-threads (*_r()). This is more comprehensive than what ships with SFU. It has the advantage that it does DNS resolving directly rather than via WinSock DNS resolving (WinSock sockets are still used via the Interix subsystem).

It is an update to the version that ships with Interix (SFU and SUA). It now includes functionality for building Windows binaries of different types (windows, dll, console). This package supersedes the 'wcc' package by including its functionality with updates.

(man -k will work too.) Catman includes the 'makewhatis' utility.

chcase Version 1.0.1 binary: /pkgs/3.5/chcase-current-bin.tgz src: /src/chcase Updated: 2004-02-20	Chcase was written as a helper utility when dealing with Win32 filenames. By default the utility acts as if the '-l' option has been given. It accepts one filename and converts that name into lowercase only (-l), uppercase only (-u) or switches the case of each letter (-s).

Electric Fence Version 2.2.2.1 binary:/pkgs/3.5/electricfence-current-bin.tgz src: /src/electricfence Updated: 2005-11-24	Electric Fence is a malloc() debugger / bounds checker. It uses the virtual memory hardware of your system to detect when software overruns the boundaries of a malloc() buffer. It will also detect any accesses of memory that has been released by free().

FontConfig Version 2.4.2 binary: /pkgs/3.5/fontconfig-current-bin.tgz src: /src/fontconfig Updated: 2007-06-05	A font configuration and customization library. Fontconfig is designed to locate fonts within the system and select them according to requirements specified by applications. Fontconfig is not a rasterization library, nor does it impose a particular rasterization library on the application. The X-specific library 'Xft' uses fontconfig along with freetype to specify and rasterize fonts.

Free TDS is a free (open source) implementation of Sybase's db-lib and ct-lib libraries. Currently, dblib and ctlib are most mature. This library gives a unique interface to message handling functions. Users of other GNU packages should install gettext as it is often used to internationalize the messages given by shell scripts.

It was ported to Interix as a demonstration project. It is an excellent example of a complex application with dozens of dependencies (all included). gimpprint Version 4.2.6 binary: /pkgs/3.5/gimpprint-current-bin.tgz src: /src/gimpprint Updated: 2004-05-06	A very high quality package of printer drivers for Ghostscript and CUPS. This project also maintains the Print plug-in for the Gimp from the same code base.

GMP Version 4.2.2 binary: /pkgs/3.5/gmp-current-bin.tgz src: /src/gmp Added: 2007-12-10 Contributed and updated by Brian Reiter: http://www.wolfereiter.com	GMP is a portable library written in C for arbitrary precision arithmetic on integers, rational numbers, and floating-point numbers. It aims to provide the fastest possible arithmetic for all applications that need higher precision than is directly supported by the basic C types. This syncs with Brian Reiter's update for ClamAV.
GnuPG Version 1.4.2.2 binary: /pkgs/3.5/gnupg-current-bin.tgz src: /src/gnupg Updated: 2006-03-17	GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a complete and free replacement for PGP. Because it does not use the patented IDEA algorithm, it can be used without any restrictions.

GTK+ Version 2.4.1.3 binary: /pkgs/3.5/gtk+-current-bin.tgz src: /src/gtk+ Added: 2004-05-10	GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for projects ranging from small one-off projects to complete application suites.
gzip Version 1.3.3.10.1 binary: /pkgs/3.5/gzip-current-bin.tgz src: /src/gzip Updated: 2005-06-29	This version of gzip contains no new features over the one released with SFU 3.5. But it is linked against zlib 1.1.4b which contains a security fix. This version also includes the utilities derived from gzip not included with SFU 3.0: gzexe, zcmp, zdiff, zforce, zgrep, zmore and znew. Man pages for each are included.
Indent Version 1.0 binary: /pkgs/3.5/indent-current-bin.tgz src: /src/indent Added: 2004-09-06	Indent is a program to indent and format C source code. This can be a useful tool to help standardize the format of C code locally without the need to do so "by-hand."

It was designed to be flexible and do its job in a reasonable amount of time. It provides information to the administrator that will fix obvious security misconfigurations.

libdl Versions for 3.5, 5.2 and 6.0 binary: /pkgs/3.5/libdl-current-bin.tgz src: /src/libdl Added: 2008-09-26	This package includes an updated libdl library and updated ld.so loader for Interix 3.5 and 6.0. This includes libdl.a (new) and ld.so search more paths by default for shared libraries to load. More extensions to be added in the future.
