for Interix, SFU & Subsystem for Unix-based Applications (SUA)

The Tool Warehouse is a repository of contributed software from Interop Systems, Microsoft and SFU/SUA users. Your SUA Community login provides access to this page, as well as the SUA Community Forum. The available software packages are can be used with Interix, Interix/SFU and the Subsystem for Unix-based Applications (Interix/SUA).

The download links (below) are to directories on the Interop Systems' FTP site. The best way to download these packages is with the command line tool pkg_update. This is one of a set of tools for managing software installations easily.

To install any of the software packages listed below you can install them as a "Bundle" or as individual packages. A list of available Bundles is shown on this site's main page. To install individual software packages please refer to the Package Install web page for details. When the Package Installer is used it will automatically determine the correct package version for the system you are using.

The ftp site is always updated before an announcement is made in the Forum which is done before this page is updated. Some source code is available at the ftp site as well.

We are continuing to add to and update the Tool Warehouse on a regular basis. If you have a specific request or would like to contribute to the repository, you can contact us at tools@interopsystems.com. If you would like to be notified about new additions, please subscribe to the Tool Warehouse Updates in the SUA Community Forum for automatic email notifications.

All SFU/Interix/SUA applications are packaged. A package is used by the installer to correctly place all the binary and data files. It also records version numbers, file locations and check sums for verification, uninstalls and does version updates. By using the installer, all the other packages that a particular application depends on will be installed at the same time. Using the Tools installer for software packages is easy and quick. All packages are binary releases. This means installations are quick and pre-tested to work. You do not need to do any source build option fiddling! Just install and use immediately. Less pain, more gain!

The installer will cleanly install, update or remove a package.
Inter-package dependencies are tracked and updated automatically.
Package updates can be automatically retrieved, and checking for new packages can be done easily.
Support is available for all packages through the /Tools Forum and through e-mail.
Package versions are updated at regular intervals so the software is current for new features, bug-fixes and security fixes. Packages include updates and extensions to SFU/Interix & Subsystem for Unix-based Applications shipped software.
Package installations can be controlled by command line and/or GUI and/or any personal administrative scripts you have.
The installer can be configured in large administrative settings by the administrator for selective package installations.

Any previous files are restored when a package is uninstalled/deleted

All tools, utilities and libraries listed work with both Interix / SFU 3.5 and the Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA), unless otherwise noted.
If the links don't work for your version of the subsystem, you can access the ftp site anonymously: ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs, or (much easier) use the option "-R num" to pkg_update where "num" is the release number output from the "uname -r" command.

These updated scripts are the ones to use because the scripts that ship with 3.5 don't work. Contributed by Mark Funkenhauser.

autoconf Version 2.63 binary: autoconf-current src:/src/autoconf	Autoconf is an extensible package of M4 macros that produce shell scripts to automatically configure software source code packages.
automake Version 1.11 binary: automake-current src: /src/automake	This is Automake, a Makefile generator. It was inspired by the 4.4BSD 'make' and 'include' files, but aims to be portable and to conform to the GNU standards for Makefile variables and targets.
awk Version 7.10.23 binary: awk-current src: /src/awk	This is awk as described in "The AWK Programming Language", by Al Aho, Brian Kernighan, and Peter Weinberger (Addison-Wesley, 1988). It contains fixes to the version of awk that ships with SFU 3.5.
bash Version 3.2.39 binary: bash-current src: /src/bash	This is GNU Bash -- the GNU Project's Bourne Again SHell, a complete implementation of the POSIX.2 shell spec, plus many other features.
bdes Version 1.0.1 binary: bdes-current src: /src/bdes	BDES is a utility for encrypting and decrypting bytes using the DES (Data Encryption Standard).
biff Version 1.0 binary: biff-current src: /src/biff	BSD mail notification utility.
bind Version 9.3.2.12 binary: bind-current.exe src: /src/bind	This replaces the version of bind that ships with SFU 3.5. BIND-9 comes with named (the DNS server daemon), libbind, the lwres library (light weight resolver) and DNS API's for p-threads (*_r()). This is more comprehensive than what ships with SFU. It has the advantage that it does DNS resolving directly rather than via WinSock DNS resolving (WinSock sockets are still used via the Interix subsystem).

bzip2 Version 2-1.0.4 binary: bzip2-current.exe src: /src/bzip2	This is bzip2, a block-sorting file compressor.
c89 Version 6.0.8 binary: c89-current src: /src/c89	This is a compiler interface to MSVC to produce binaries for Interix. It is an update to the version that ships with Interix (SFU and SUA). It now includes functionality for building Windows binaries of different types (windows, dll, console). This package supersedes the 'wcc' package by including its functionality with updates.
cabextract Version 1.1 binary: cabextract-current.exe src: /src/cabextract	Cabextract is a program to extract files from Microsoft cabinet (CAB, .cab) files.
cadaver Version 0.23.2 binary: cadaver-current.exe src: /src/cadaver Contributed by Brian Reiter: http://www.wolfereiter.com	Cadaver is a command-line WebDAV client for Unix. It supports file upload, download, on-screen display, namespace operations (move/copy), collection creation and deletion, and locking operations.
caesar Version 1.1 binary: caesar-current src: /src/caesar	Caesar is a utility for decrypting caesar cyphers (rotations). This is the utility often used to perform "rot13" for newsgroups. This now includes the 'rot13' program.
cat Version 1.2 binary: cat-current.exe src: /src/cat	Cat is used to concatenate and print files -- with long options using BSD code.
catman Version 1.7.2 binary: catman-current.exe src: /src/catman	Catman is a script used to translate a large number of raw man pages to their "cat" form so that the Interix 'man' utility will find and output them. (man -k will work too.) Catman includes the 'makewhatis' utility.
cbrowser Version 0.8 binary: cbrowser-current src: /src/cbrowser	Cbrowser is a front end to the popular source code indexing and querying program cscope.
ccache Version 2.4 binary: ccache-current.exe src: /src/ccache	This utility is a fast compiler cache for use with C and C++.
chcase Version 1.0.1 binary: chcase-current.exe src: /src/chcase	Chcase was written as a helper utility when dealing with Win32 filenames. By default the utility acts as if the '-l' option has been given. It accepts one filename and converts that name into lowercase only (-l), uppercase only (-u) or switches the case of each letter (-s).
chmod Version 1.0 binary: chmod-current.exe src: /src/chmod
cmp Version 1.0 binary: cmp-current.exe src: /src/cmp	Cmp compares two files.
colrm Version 1.0 binary: colrm-current.exe src: /src/colrm	This is the BSD version of the utility 'colrm' which removes selected columns from a file.
comsat (biff) Version 1.0 binary: comsat-current.exe src: /src/comsat	Comsat is the biff server (daemon) which receives notification of incoming mail and informs the appropriate users at their terminal if they have requested the service.
ClamAV Version 0.91.2 binary: clamav-current src: http://www.clamav.net/ Contributed and updated by Brian Reiter: http://www.wolfereiter.com	ClamAV is a set of anti-virus tools. It allows for filesystem scans and also can be used to scan e-mail for viruses.
cp Version 1.2 binary: cp-current.exe	Copy files and directories - additional options.
cpio Version 2.9 binary: cpio-current src: /src/cpio	This is a newer, modified version of cpio to compensate for the behavior of readlink() in SFU 3.5 that causes cpio to truncate symbolic link names by one character.
cscope Version 15.7.1 binary: cscope-current src: /src/cscope	Cscope is an interactive, screen-oriented tool that allows the user to browse through C source files for specified elements of code.
curl Version 7.16.2 binary: curl-current.exe src: /src/curl	Curl is a command line tool for transferring data specified with URL syntax. Libcurl is a library that Curl is using to do its job.
cut Version 1.0 binary: cut-current.exe src: /src/cut	The cut utility selects portions of each line (as specified by list) from each file (or the standard input by default), and writes them to the standard output.
CVS Version 1.12.12.2 binary: cvs-current.exe src: /src/cvs	CVS is the Concurrent Versions System, the dominant open source network-transparent version control system.
Cxref Version 1.6a binary: cxref-current.exe src: /src/cxref	Cxref is a C cross referencing and documenting tool with output in LaTeX, HTML, RTF and SGML.
date Version 1.0 binary: date-current.exe src: /src/date	display or set date and time (enhanced).
DDD Version 3.3.8.2 binary: ddd-current.exe src: /src/ddd	GNU DDD is a graphical front-end for command-line debuggers such as GDB, DBX, WDB, Ladebug, JDB, XDB, the Perl debugger, the bash debugger, or the Python debugger.
dialog Version 1.0.6.2 binary: dialog-current src: /src/dialog	Dialog displays dialog boxes from shell scripts using curses.
diffutils Version 2.8.1 binary: diffutils-current.exe src: /src/diffutils	An update for the 'diff', 'diff3' and 'sdiff' utilities.
Echo Version 1.0 binary: echo-current.exe src: /src/echo	Echo writes arguments to the standard output. This is an update to the version that ships with SFU to include SUS options plus others.
ed Version 3.7 binary: ed-current.exe src: /src/ed	Ed is a standard text editor. While line oriented it is still very powerful, especially when using scripts for editing.
Electric Fence Version 2.2.2.1 binary:electricfence-current src: /src/electricfence	Electric Fence is a malloc() debugger / bounds checker. It uses the virtual memory hardware of your system to detect when software overruns the boundaries of a malloc() buffer. It will also detect any accesses of memory that has been released by free().
emacs Version 21.2 binary:emacs-current src: /beta/emacs	This is the gnu emacs editor.
Expect Version 5.43 binary:expect-current src: /src/expect	This is Expect 5.40 for Tcl 8.3 and Tk 8.3 (below). Expect is a program that performs programmed dialogue with other interactive programs.
fastCGI Version 2.4.0 binary: src: /src/fastcgi	FastCGI is a language independent, scalable, open extension to CGI that provides high performance without the limitations of server specific API's.
fetchmail Version 6.2.5.2.1 binary: fetchmail-current.exe src: /src/fetchmail	This utility allows you to fetch email from various types of email servers: POP, IMAP, ETRN or ODMR. This version has been compiled with the SSL option.
find Version 1.2 binary: find-current.exe src: /src/find	Find is a Unix utility to walk a file hierarchy. This is an update to the version that ships with SFU 3.5 so several new primaries are available.
flex Version 2.5.35 binary: flex-current.exe src: /src/flex	Flex is a lexical analyzer generator. It is a tool for generating programs that perform pattern-matching on text. It is BSD-based in code and license.
flip Version 1.1 binary: flip-current.exe src: /src/flip	Flip is the program for converting text file line endings amongst Unix, MS-DOS and Macintosh (old Mac) styles. This update includes more functionality. Also included are command mappings to 'flip' for the utilities 'unix2dos' and 'dos2unix'.
FontConfig Version 2.4.2 binary: fontconfig-current src: /src/fontconfig	A font configuration and customization library. Fontconfig is designed to locate fonts within the system and select them according to requirements specified by applications. Fontconfig is not a rasterization library, nor does it impose a particular rasterization library on the application. The X-specific library 'Xft' uses fontconfig along with freetype to specify and rasterize fonts.
fortune Version 1.1.1 binary: fortune-current.exe src: /src/fortune	This utility prints an interesting random epigram, quote or adage -- a traditional UNIX favorite.
FreeTDS Version 0.62.3 binary: freetds-current.exe src: /src/freetds For more info, see our database connectivity page.	Free TDS is a free (open source) implementation of Sybase's db-lib and ct-lib libraries. Currently, dblib and ctlib are most mature. Both of these libraries have several programs known to compile and run against them.
freetype 2 Version 2.1.10 binary: libfreetype-current.exe src: not posted	Freetype 2 is a font engine.

FVWM Version 2.4.19 binary: fvwm-current.exe src: /src/fvwm	FVWM is a multiple large virtual desktop window manager, originally derived from twm. FVWM is intended to have a small memory footprint but a rich feature set, be extremely customizable and extendible, and have a high degree of Motif mwm compatibility.

gettext Version 0.16.9.1 binary: gettext-current src: /src/gettext	This is the GNU gettext package. This library gives a unique interface to message handling functions. Users of other GNU packages should install gettext as it is often used to internationalize the messages given by shell scripts.

giflib Version 4.1.4 binary:/giflib-current-bin.tgz src: /src/giflib	The giflib package contains libraries for reading and writing GIFs as well as programs for converting and working with GIF files.
GIMP Version 2.0.0 binary: gimp-current.exe Warning: Download is 23 MB! src: /src/gimp	This is GIMP version 2.0, a stable release of the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It was ported to Interix as a demonstration project. It is an excellent example of a complex application with dozens of dependencies (all included). gimpprint Version 4.2.6 binary: gimpprint-current src: /src/gimpprint	A very high quality package of printer drivers for Ghostscript and CUPS. This project also maintains the Print plug-in for the Gimp from the same code base.
glib Version 2.13.4.1 binary: glib-current src: /src/glib	GLib is a library which includes support routines for C such as: lists, trees, hashes, memory allocation, and many other things.
gmake Version 3.80.1 binary: gmake-current.exe src: /src/gmake	This is GNU Make. This distribution includes the GNU Make manual.
GMP Version 4.2.2 binary: gmp-current.exe src: /src/gmp Contributed and updated by Brian Reiter: http://www.wolfereiter.com	GMP is a portable library written in C for arbitrary precision arithmetic on integers, rational numbers, and floating-point numbers. It aims to provide the fastest possible arithmetic for all applications that need higher precision than is directly supported by the basic C types. This syncs with Brian Reiter's update for ClamAV.
GnuPG Version 1.4.9 binary: gnupg-current src: /src/gnupg	GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a complete and free replacement for PGP. Because it does not use the patented IDEA algorithm, it can be used without any restrictions.
gnuplot Version 4.0.0 binary: gnuplot-current.exe src: /src/gnuplot	Gnuplot is a command-driven interactive function plotting program. It can display to an X11 server too.
grep Version 1.3 binary: grep-current.exe src: /src/grep	This is an updated version of 'grep' that includes recursive directory traversal as well as all of the more recent new options.
groff Version 1.17.2.2 binary: groff-current src: /src/groff	This is the GNU Groff formatting system and includes a long list of implementations.

gSOAP Version 2.6 binary: gsoap-current src: /src/gsoap	The gSOAP toolkit is a cross-platform development environment for C and C++ SOAP/XML Web services (SOAP 1.1/1.2, WSDL 1.1). gSOAP supports XML serialization of native C/C++ data types. Includes stub/skeleton compiler, HTTP Web server, and much more.
GTK+ Version 2.4.1.3 binary: gtk+-current src: /src/gtk+ Added: 2004-05-10	GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for projects ranging from small one-off projects to complete application suites.
gzip Version 1.3.3.10.1 binary: gzip-current.exe src: /src/gzip	This version of gzip contains no new features over the one released with SFU 3.5. But it is linked against zlib 1.1.4b which contains a security fix. This version also includes the utilities derived from gzip not included with SFU 3.0: gzexe, zcmp, zdiff, zforce, zgrep, zmore and znew. Man pages for each are included.
Indent Version 1.0 binary: indent-current.exe src: /src/indent	Indent is a program to indent and format C source code. This can be a useful tool to help standardize the format of C code locally without the need to do so "by-hand."
install Version 1.1.2 binary: install-current.exe src: /src/install	This is an update to the 'install' utility that ships with SFU 3.5. This version adds options that many software applications now expect.
ISS Version 1.3 binary: iss-current src: /src/install	Internet Security Scanner (ISS) is a multi-level security scanner. It was designed to be flexible and do its job in a reasonable amount of time. It provides information to the administrator that will fix obvious security misconfigurations.
Jam Version 2.5.2 binary: jam-current.exe src: /src/jam	Jam is a program construction tool, like make(1).
joe Version 3.3 binary: joe-current.exe src: /src/joe	Joe's Own Editor (joe) is a powerful editor that can be run in several mode to appear like WordStar, Pico and emacs in addition to it's own mode-less interface.
jot Version 1.0.1 binary: jot-current.exe src: /src/jot	Jot is a utility to print random or sequential data.
jove Version 4.16.0.65 binary: jove-current.exe src: /src/jove	Jonathan's Own Version of Emacs (jove) is a light-weight alternative to 'emacs' because it does not carry Lisp around with it.
jpeg Version 6b.4 binary: jpeg-current.exe src: /src/jpeg	This distribution contains the sixth public release of the Independent JPEG Group's free JPEG image compression and decompression software.
Lam Version 1.0 binary: lam-current.exe src: /src/lam	This utility laminates files together vertically.
lc Version 1.1 binary: lc-current.exe src: /src/lc	LC is much like the ls command except it separates the types of files into groups and then displays located file names to the user is a columnar fashion.
ldconfig Version 1.0 binary: ldconfig-current.exe	For configuring where shared libraries are to be found at load time.

libart Version 2.3.19 binary: libart-current.exe src:	Libart is a library for high-performance 2D graphics.
libcrypt Version 1.2.7 binary: libcrypt-current src: /src/libcrypt	This is a replacement "libcrypt" library . The "sha2" routines are now added and this gives a shared library for libcrypt.
libdes Version 4.04b binary: libdes-current.exe src: /src/libdes	This includes the man pages (des and des_crypt).
libdl Versions for 3.5.3 (3.5), 5.2.3 (6.0) binary: libdl-current.exe src: /src/libdl Updated: 2009-05-06	This package includes an updated libdl library and updated ld.so loader for Interix 3.5 and 6.0. This includes libdl.a (new) and ld.so search more paths by default for shared libraries to load. More extensions to be added in the future.
libedit Version 1.1.1 binary: libedit-current.exe src: /src/libedit	Libedit is the library of in-line editor APIs derived from 4.4BSD source code. It is used in such programs as ftp(1) to recall a previous command. The editline library provides generic line editing and history functions, similar to those found in sh(1).

libm Version 3.5.4/5.2.4 binary: libm-current.exe src: /src/libm	An updated math library with more functions. Improved speed on Interix/SUA 6.0 over original.
libncurses Version 5.6 binary: libncurses-current.exe src: /src/libncurses	Ncurses is a CRT handling and optimization package. This implementation is "new curses" (ncurses) and is the approved replacement for 4.4BSD classic curses, which has been discontinued.
libpng Version 1.2.16 binary: libpng-current src: /src/libpng	PNG is intended as a replacement for TIFF and GIF image formats to provide better images. Libpng is the official PNG (Portable Network Graphics) reference library for creating these images.
libport Version 1.1.28 binary: libport-current.exe src: /src/libport	A portability library to ease the transition to Interix for some API's, plus ioctl() extensions.

libtool Version 2.2.6.1 binary: libtool-current.exe src: /src/libtool Contributed by Brian Reiter: http://www.wolfereiter.com	Libtool is a generic library support script. It supports the building of static, shared and dynamic libraries across multiple platforms.

libxml2 Version 2.6.28 binary: libxml-current.exe src: /src/libxml2	Libxml2 is an XML C parser and toolkit library under an MIT license.
libxpm Version 3.4k.3 binary: libxpm-current.exe src: /src/libxpm	This is the Koala project's XPixMap image format and library. The format defines how to store color images (X Pixmap) in a portable and powerful way. The library provides a set of functions to store and retrieve images to and from XPM format data, being either files, buffers (files in memory), or data (included files).
libxslt Version 1.1.21 binary: libxslt-current.exe src: /src/libxslt	An extension library for XSLT (relates to XML).
links Version 2.1.17 binary: links-current.exe src: /src/links	A lynx-like alternative character mode WWW browser. Also has a graphical (X11) version.
locate Version 1.1.1 binary: locate-current.exe src: /src/locate	'Locate' finds filenames quickly.
logger Version 1.0 binary: logger-current.exe src: update to SFU version	A utility to add messages to the system logs (syslog). This is a replacement for the Interix version and adds several new options.
login Version 1.0 binary: login-current.exe	A program to log users onto the computer. Comes with S/Key enhancements built-in.
lorder Version 1.0 binary: lorder-current.exe src: /src/lorder	This is a utility for list dependencies for object files. Used together with tsort, ar, nm and the loader.
ls Version 1.29 binary: ls-current.exe src: /src/ls	This is a utility to list directory contents. This BSD-based utility now has color support for file types -- an often requested enhancement.
lsreg Version 1.0 binary: lsreg-current.exe src: /src/ls	The lsreg utility allows you to view the value of a key in the registry as long as you know the whole path (sorry, no filesystem like capability). The regdump utility dumps out the value of the key registry entries that affect Interix (SFU/SUA). The intent here is to provide a quick and easy way to check the critical registry entries that seem to occasionally get wacked by MS updates.
Lynx Version 2.8.5 binary: lynx-current.exe src: /src/lynx	Lynx is a general purpose distributed information browser for the World Wide Web for terminals. It will display HTML documents and links. It can connect with HTTP, GOPHER, FTP, WAIS and NNTP (news) servers.

tftpd Version 1.0 binary: tftpd-current src: /src/tftp	This updates the Trivial FTP daemon to have a few new options. This also gets around a problem of running tftpd as it ships with SFU 3.5 (and maybe other versions). There is a "-u username" option to specify tftpd to run as a particular user rather than the default from inetd (which usually will be local administrator). There is a "-c" to allow files to be created. Otherwise only files that exist can get written to. There is a "-s" for 'secure' option. When this is set then relative paths will be located within the specified tftp directory and won't need a full pathname. Useful for Xterm's and other diskless machines. The older '-l' and '-n' option continue to be supported. The security has been tightened up a bit for permissions checking, etc.
